The Edge of the Cliff
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
He liked walking, discovering everything on foot, being physically inside the air, the noises, the voices.
- What is this bird who comes on my road, overthere ?
- It's not a bird, it's a kangaroo.
- Really ?
- You're in Brisbane, Australia.
- Ok… I see him well, now.
Everything was new, and he would probably never see it again.
So everything appeared to him as a gift :
The man we see by transparency,
The white frame, lost in a park,
And the dreamy gardener.
Another town, another surprise :
Three threadlike men, who look like heroes of Balzac.
About First World War, two statues affected him particularly :
A nurse tending a wounded soldier,
And this other one, with the donkey.

THE MAN WITH THE DONKEY

This is an iconic image of a stretcher-bearer with his donkey carrying a wounded comrade.
Many soldiers wounded at Gallipoli (Dardanelles) owed their life to the stretcher bearers, who braved enemy fire to rescue men from the frontline and carry them to dressing stations on the beach.
